2001 Buick Park Avenue Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Start by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If it sits at halfway between the top and bottom marks no fluid needs to be deleted but excess fluid should be lowered to halfway. Lift up the vehicle and take off the wheel. Squeeze the brake caliper piston using a large c-clamp by fitting its ends between the caliper and Brake Pad at the caliper's back. Continue tightening until the piston shifts over the brake rotor. Apply mechanic's wire support to the brake caliper before unbolting its lower pin and c-clamp from the bottom brake caliper pin bolt to prevent hydraulic hose damage. Move the caliper body up and fix it steadily to maintain the hydraulic hose connection. Put a large c-clamp between the piston of the caliper and an old Brake Pad or a wood block to push it completely forward. Then remove the tools to let the piston return to its place. Examine the brake pads present within the caliper bracket before removing them both from the inner and outer sides. Check suspension boots around the caliper bolts for damage and replace them if needed. Also test the condition of caliper pin bolts by looking for corrosion and replace any damaged parts. Check the piston boot condition before applying silicone lube to high-temperature front brake caliper pin bolts. Place the new brake pads over retainers into the bracket before lowering the caliper down to bracket position. Install the lower brake caliper pin bolt and fasten it to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). Put back the wheel and tire and lower the vehicle before pressing the Brake Pedal gently up to 2/3 its length while keeping the engine off. Release the Brake Pedal multiple times during an interval of 15 seconds until the braking system produces steady engagement. This step guarantees correct placement of brake pistons and pads within their components. Round out the brake reservoir and smooth out pad and rotor surfaces before completing work.
