2001 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J 29803-A ISO Flaring Kit on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The replacement brake pipe installation requires using the J 29803-A ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A) and double-walled steel pipe for safety. Start with steel fitting nuts and correct size pipe according to the outside diameter of the pipe. The pipe needs to be cut square and to appropriate length by using a hack saw while moving the tool gently per turn without creating any extra force. For measuring the correct pipe length use the old pipe dimension then calculate the amount by adding 3.2 mm (0.125 inch) for each ISO flare. The pipe fittings should be installed first and then both pipe diameters inside and out need de-burring with a proper tool. Set the upright J 29803-A into a vise and choose the best suite collet and forming mandrel for the pipe before installing the chosen mandrel while maintaining control of the J 29803-A fixture. Apply torque to the forcing screw until the mandrel receives contact then unwind the screw once full rotation. Slide the clamping nut over the brake pipe before inserting the prepared pipe into the collet until 19 mm (0.750 inch) extends outside while the pipe end remains in contact with the mandrel face. When securing the clamping nut ensure the brake pipe remains stable, then tighten the forcing screw until it reaches its maximum without over-torque that could create an oversized flare. Unfasten the clamping nut then proceed with separating the clamping nut from the collet assembly. The prepared flare can be used after performing measurement to ensure the diameter lies between 6.92 mm and 7.28 mm (0.272 inch and 0.286 inch). Use a tube bender to create a new pipe that duplicates the original shape while keeping a 19 mm (0.75 inch) distance from moving parts and 13 mm (0.50 inch) from vibrating parts and 7 mm (0.25 inch) distance from shielded lines unless they are attached directly to a component.
