2000 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on 2000 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Start by pulling out both the cotter pin and hex slotted nut from the outer tie rod assembly with a universal steering linkage puller (J24319-01). First loosen the jam nut of the inner tie rod assembly then use the same puller to remove the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle. After pulling off the outer tie rod assembly you need to detach this assembly from its connection to the inner tie rod assembly. At the beginning of assembly stage connect the outer tie rod assembly to the inner tie rod but avoid tightening the jam nut . Secure the tie rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle using a hex slotted nut installed onto the outer tie rod stud. Tighten the hex slotted nut to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) and accurately place the cotter pin slot by continuing to tighten the nut another 1/6 turn not exceeding 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the cotter pin into the hole on the tie rod stud while maintaining the boot's position and smooth appearance throughout toe adjustment. To complete the toe adjustment process you must turn the inner tie rod then use a torque wrench to tighten the hex jam nut against the outer tie rod until it reaches 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.).
