2000 Cadillac Eldorado Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2000 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Service and repair operations for suspension struts start with collecting the following tools: Holding Fixture (J 3289-20), Strut Compressor (J 34013-B) and Alignment Rod (J 34013-38). The necessary tools consist of two components: Holding Fixture (J 3289-20) and Strut Compressor (J 34013-B) and Alignment Rod (J 34013-38). Follow proper handling of the front suspension coil spring to prevent coating damage which can cause spring failure. Position the removed strut into the Strut Compressor (J 34013-B) then securely tighten the nuts until they rest directly on the compressor. Drive the locking pins into the strut before turning the compressor forcing screw until the spring tension reaches a slight point. A 24 mm wrench removes the strut shaft nut but you need a socket to stop the shaft from turning. After that, fit the Alignment Rod (J 34013-38) to direct the strut shaft exit from the assembly. Lead the compressor screw counterclockwise to extract the strut shaft while simultaneously removing both the spring and strut component. To install the strut position it inside the Strut Compressor (J 34013-B) while mounting the Damper Rod Clamp (J 34013-20) around the strut shaft. The flat face of the upper spring seat must be kept facing outward during bearing installation while maintaining the same orientation as removal. Raise the assembly into an upright position so you can place the spring across the strut before installing the upper locking pin. Guide the Alignment Rod (J 34013-38) into the strut guide strut shaft as you turn the compressor screw clockwise for alignment with the center strut shaft. Continue rotatory motion until strut shaft thread exposure occurs before installing a washer followed by a nut while applying fastener safety measures. Place the socket against the strut shaft during the procedure and tighten the strut mount nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). Then remove the Damper Rod Clamp (J 34013-20). Remove the strut from the strut compressor as the final step.
