2000 Cadillac Eldorado Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on 2000 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: First use the universal steering linkage puller (J24319-01) to extract the cotter pin and hex slotted nut from the outer tie rod assembly off the vehicle. The inner jam nut should be loosened before the puller removes the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle. The process starts with disconnecting the outer tie rod assembly from the inner tie rod assembly. During assembly only connect the outer tie rod assembly to the inner tie rod and leave the jam nut unhindered before installation. Secure the Steering Knuckle tie rod assembly using the hex slotted nut found on the outer tie rod stud. The hex slotted nut requires 47 nm (35 ft.lbs.) of torque before continuing with alignment of the cotter pin slot through an additional 1/6 turn that must not exceed 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.) at any time without relieving tension for cotter pin insertion. Put the cotter pin through the tie rod stud hole before tightening the hex jam nut against the outer tie rod to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.).
