• Q: How to remove and install the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2000 Cadillac Seville?

  A: To remove the air bag clock spring assembly/spiral cable, first, disable the sir system, and then remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Secondly, remove the steering wheel nut and make sure that you remember the mark of the alignment of the Steering Shaft and the steering wheel for appropriate re-installation. Remove the steering wheel from the shaft, use hand and pull the tilt lever straight out to separate the tilt lever assembly. Remove two torx(R) head screws located at the bottom shroud and perform the shutdown of the bottom shroud. Proceed to remove two screws of the upper shroud of torx(R) head and then remove the upper shroud. Remove the retain ring and detach the wire harness straps from the steering wheel column wire harness before removing the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil from the Steering Shaft. In the installation, the wheels must be straight ahead, and the block tooth and centering mark on the race and upper shaft assembly should be located at the 12 o'clock mark. The new sir coil assembly will come pre-centered; check the centering before starting use and follow the guidelines attached on the notice of the coil assembly in case of the centering. Ensure proper alignment of the sir coil assembly with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly, install the wave washer to the upper shaft assembly and slide the coil assembly to the race and the upper shaft assembly. Remove and dispose of the centering tab and then install the retaining ring making sure that it is properly seated. Place the upper shroud and fix it in the place by use of two torx(R) head screws and screw them until the tightening is at 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Then install the lower shroud and attach it with two torx(R) head screws and tighten the screws to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Make sure that the tabs are on the lower shroud engage the upper shroud during screwing. Line up and slide the tilt lever back into the steering column where it latches, then thread the wiring around the steering wheel. Position the steering wheel over the mark on the Steering Shaft and install it, tightening the nut to 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Last, install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module and enable the sir system.
