Next, unscrew the hex jam nut from the inner tie rod assembly and unscrew the tie rod end clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot. Cut off and dispose the boot clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot and remove the Rack and Pinion Boot from the Rack And Pinion gear assembly . Check for damages on the Rack and Pinion Boot and check for gear oil leak within the same draining any oil observed within the same. Clean the Rack and Pinion Boot using solvent. To assemble, place a new boot clamp on the Rack and Pinion Boot and apply grease on the inner tie rod assembly and the Rack And Pinion gear assembly before installing the Rack and Pinion Boot onto the inner tie rod assembly . Make sure that the boot is not twisted or puckered, readjust it with hand first before placing it over the groove of the gear assembly. Refer to the service boot clamp installer (J 22610) to install and crimp the boot clamp on the boot. Pinch the pliers on the boot to install the tie rod end clamp, and then reinstall the hex jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly.
