2001 Cadillac Seville Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2001 Cadillac Seville?
A: Before boot replacement begin by using the service boot clamp installer (J 22610) to detach the outer tie rod and hex jam nut from inside the tie rod assembly. Detach the tie rod end clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot then cut open the boot clamp with side cutters before discarding the old clamp. After removing the Rack and Pinion Boot from the gear assembly check for damage and inspect the boot for inner oil leakage. After draining the oil wash the boot thoroughly using a solvent. To begin assembly install a new boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot and apply grease to both the inner tie rod assembly and the Rack And Pinion gear assembly . Then place the new Rack and Pinion Boot onto the inner tie rod assembly. Position the boot carefully inside its groove of the gear assembly and use your hands to straighten any puckered or twisted areas. You should use the service boot clamp installer (J 22610) to apply boot clamp installation and crimping on the boot . Apply pliers closure pressure to the boot to clamp down on the tie rod end before reattaching the hex jam nut over the inner rod assembly.
