  • Q: What tools are required to remove and install the front harmonic balancer on 2000 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The installation and removal of the Harmonic Balancer requires these tools: vehicle maintenance requires the Harmonic Balancer remover (J 41816) and the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) along with the Flywheel holding tool (J 42386-A) and both Harmonic Balancer and sprocket installer (J 41665) and torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Harmonic Balancer remover (J 41816), crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2), Flywheel holding tool (J 42386-A), Harmonic Balancer and sprocket installer (J 41665), and torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Start by taking off the right transmission cover and bolt before checking that the Flywheel holding tool (J 42386-A) teeth fit properly with the engine Flywheel. Fasten the j 42386-a component through one m10-1.5 x 120 mm and one m10-1.5 x 45 mm bolt until torque reaches 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Keep the Harmonic Balancer bolt handy since you'll reinstall it during the process. Use permanent markers to place markings on both the Harmonic Balancer along with the crankshaft for correct alignment. You can use the Harmonic Balancer remover (J 41816) in combination with the crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2) to remove the balancer; afterwards clean up the balancer while performing inspections. To install the new balancer start by positioning it at the same spot as the previous one then add balance weights and ensure precise alignment of scribe marks. Fit the balancer onto the crankshaft using the Harmonic Balancer and sprocket installer (J 41665) to achieve flat installation. Check the balancer installation depth after loosening the balancer bolt to 330 nm (240 ft. Lbs.). Install the new balancer bolt then apply 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque followed by a 140-degree torque angle using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A). The final procedure requires users to remove the Flywheel holding tool (J 42386-A) along with its bolts followed by right transmission cover and bolt replacement and 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) tightening of the cover bolt and the crankshaft position (CKP) system variation learn procedure.
