2000 Chevrolet Impala Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before starting work simply drain one-third of brake fluid and securely lift the vehicle. Notate wheel and axle position before taking out tire and wheel while keeping two wheel nuts on the rotor. Apply a c-clamp to push the caliper piston down before unscrewing the top caliper bolt. Lower the caliper body to access brake pads from the inside while keeping it attached and unscrew the two pad clips plus pads 9 and 10. Check the caliper bracket boots for defects like cuts and tears and replace them when required. Additionally, examine the piston boot for the same signs of wear and damage. Replace damaged caliper bolts if they show signs of rust or problems. Clean the caliper boot outside surface before pad installation through application of denatured alcohol. Lower the piston down into the caliper housing with a c-clamp then press out air that has trapped inside the boot at the inner edge. Mount the two retainers to the caliper bracket with their wear sensors at the trailing edge of the outside pad surface. Carefully put pad numbers 9 and 10 into the caliper bracket space but make sure to avoid damaging the pin boot as you rotate the caliper. Move the caliper above the pads while applying silicone grease to the top bolt seal space and fasten the bolt tightly at 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Secure the tire locks on the rotor then put on wheels and tires while making certain to match the installed marks. Lower the vehicle down to the ground. Put brake fluid inside the master cylinder until it reaches the required amount then press the Brake Pedal three times to position the pads correctly before smoothing out the surface of both pads and rotor.
