2000 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod end on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: You should start servicing and repairing the Tie Rod End by first elevating and sustaining the vehicle. First disconnect the prevailing torque nut from the outer tie rod assembly and after that remove the tire and wheel assembly. The technician should loosen the jam nut located on the inner tie rod assembly. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) should be used to disconnect the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle before separating the outer tie rod assembly from the inner tie rod assembly. When installing the tie rod assembly join it to the inner rod without first tightening the jam nut. The procedure begins with attaching the outer tie rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle and installing its prevailing torque nut until it attains 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) torque followed by further installing an additional 120 degrees of rotation. Complete the installation by tightening the jam nut against the outer tie rod assembly to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.), put the tire and wheel assembly back on then lower the car before performing front end alignment.
