2000 Chevrolet Metro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: When Should Brake Disc Refinishing Be Performed on 2000 Chevrolet Metro?
A: The refinishing of brake rotors should only happen when severe rotor braking surface scoring or brake pulsation from high lateral runout or thickness variation or deep brake surface corrosion occur. Brake pulsation could develop from ignoring the cleaning process which uses hub cleaning kit (J 42450-A) on the rotor and its flange mating surface. The brake rotor thickness should be measured with a micrometer after cleaning the Wheel Bearing and hub with the hub cleaning kit (J 42450-A). Rotor replacement becomes necessary whenever the minimum thickness is exceeded. The rotor resurfacing kit (J 41013) enables full rust removal from the flange before you begin rotor machining using brake lathe manufacturer directions to achieve maximum surface finish quality which reduces poor braking effects. A non-directional braking surface should be created by using 120-grit aluminum oxide sandpaper as well as a non-directional rotor finisher when available. The cleaning operation requires gm p/n 12377981 and an equivalent brake parts cleaner for the braking surfaces. The wheel nuts must receive proper torque treatment for brake pulsation and rotor damage prevention.
