2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod end on 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: A safe working position with a raised vehicle serves as the initial step for Tie Rod End servicing and repair work. Start by removing the tire and wheel followed by taking off the prevailing torque nut which fastens the outer tie rod assembly. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) enables the removal of the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle by using the jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly while loosening the jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly . The next step requires separation of the outer tie rod assembly from the inner tie rod assembly. Begin outer tie rod assembly installation by mounting it onto the inner tie rod assembly without applying force to the jam nut. The Steering Knuckle assembly requires the outer tie rod assembly which must be installed while securing it with a prevailing torque nut implemented at 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while rotating an additional 120 degrees when 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 threads emerge past the nylon washer. After reattaching the wheel and tire complete the process by doing a front end alignment on the vehicle. To assemble everything correctly first tighten the jam nut to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.) against the outer tie rod assembly after which the tire and wheel assembly should be put back. Finally, lower the vehicle until the wheel makes contact with the ground.
