- Q: How to replace the inner tie rod on 2000 Chevrolet Venture?A: Before replacing the inner Tie Rod start by removing the Rack and Pinion Boot then securely position the rack as you work to avoid damage. Start by taking out the shock dampener of the inner Tie Rod assembly before placing it back onto the rack. Starting with the inner Tie Rod assembly detachment from the rack assembly requires placing a wrench on each piece's flat sides and turning the inner Tie Rod housing counterclockwise to separate from the rack. Remove all remnants of loctite (R) products from threads located on the rack assembly and inner Tie Rod elements. Start shock dampener assembly by moving it forward onto the rack and ensure threaded sections are clean then apply loctite (R) 262 (or equivalent) to inner Tie Rod threads. Resurface the rack assembly with a wrench then apply torque to the inner Tie Rod housing using an inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) and torque wrench until reaching 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). After inserting the shock dampener past the inner Tie Rod housing it must reach its maximum point of contact with the housing.
