- Q: How to replace the auxiliary evaporator core on 2000 GMC Savana 3500?A: The first step for auxiliary evaporator core replacement demands refrigerant recovery from the A/C system followed by vehicle raising and suitable safety stand usage. Start the replacement process by taking off the heater and air conditioning line cover which sits under the auxiliary evaporator module before detaching the heater lines from this module. Detach the accessory evaporator underbody rear tube assembly from the core by removing the one retaining nut followed by the two nuts on the module-to-vehicle interface. Lower the vehicle while removing safety stands and detach the left body side rear trim panel and the upper/lower auxiliary air outlet duct assembly. Remove the auxiliary evaporator module assembly from the vehicle after disconnecting all electrical connectors and removing two bolts that secure the case to the vehicle body. Obtain the screws from the case then separate it to extract the core seal and core for inspection of damaged gaskets and seals while exchanging components as needed. The installation process begins with placing the evaporator core inside the case before reassembly of the case halves and auxiliary evaporator module assembly reinstallation into the vehicle. Fasten the case by installing two bolts inside the vehicle before reconnecting electrical wires and placing back the upper/lower auxiliary air outlet duct assembly and left body side rear trim panel. The installation requires securing the two nuts which fasten the auxiliary evaporator module to the underside of the vehicle by torquing them to 10 N.m (89 lb in). The one retaining nut should be installed to the auxiliary evaporator underbody rear tube assembly with 25 N.m (18 lb ft) torque adjustment followed by reconnecting heater lines to the auxiliary evaporator module and reinstalling the heater and A/C line cover. After taking off both safety stands from the vehicle proceed to lower it down and perform a coolant filling process and refrigerant recharging on the system.
