    Q:
How to replace the auxiliary evaporator core on Chevrolet Express 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The procedure for replacing an auxiliary evaporator core starts with recovering refrigerant from the A/C system followed by draining coolant. The first step is to raise the vehicle and then remove the heater and A/C line cover from below the auxiliary evaporator module before detaching the heater lines. The one nut securing the rear tube assembly should be removed first to free the auxiliary evaporator from its core positioning and following steps involve eliminating the two nuts that maintain the module beneath the vehicle body. The installer should lower the vehicle before extracting the left rear body side trim panel and then the upper and lower auxiliary duct assemblies. First disconnect all electrical connectors before you remove the two inside vehicle bolts that hold the case. The auxiliary evaporator module assembly must be taken out first while you remove all screws from the case to separate it into two halves. Check the gaskets and seals of the evaporator core within the auxiliary HVAC module for damage and install new ones if necessary while you remove the evaporator core and core seal. Reassemble the case halves after you place the evaporator core into the auxiliary HVAC module then install the evaporator core seal. Fasten the auxiliary evaporator module assembly to the vehicle by using the two bolts located inside. Reconnect all electrical wires followed by installing both the premium air discharge duct pieces and then installing the left-side rear panel of the body. Use the two nuts to attach the auxiliary evaporator module underneath the vehicle while torquing them to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Remove the one nut on the auxiliary evaporator underbody rear tube assembly before tightening it to 28 N.m (21 lb ft). After reinstallation of the heater lines and the heater and A/C line cover you should lower the vehicle. The last steps include filling the engine coolant and evacuating and recharging the A/C system after which a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) is used to conduct a leak test on the components fittings.
