2001 Buick Century Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel pressure regulator on 2001 Buick Century?
A: The procedure for Fuel Pressure Regulator replacement requires the removal of system pressure from the system first. The process starts by disconnecting the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line along with removing its retaining screw. A shop towel should catch spilled fuel while you use it for lifting the Fuel Pressure Regulator then twisting it off from its rail connection. First remove the retainer as well as the spacer bracket from the rail before taking the Fuel Pressure Regulator off the engine fuel return pipe. Eliminate the o-ring from the Fuel Pressure Regulator inlet together with the fuel return pipe o-ring. Check the filter screen for impurities because it needs replacement when contamination is present. Install the new pressure regulator inlet o-ring after applying clean engine oil followed by installation of the o-ring to its inlet. The same process applies to the new fuel return pipe o-ring which requires engine oil lubrication before attachment. Before securing the regulator attachment screw the fuel return line needs connection to avoid regulator rotation that could harm the retainer and spacer bracket and trigger a fuel leak at the regulator inlet. Join the fuel return pipe to the pressure regulator and fit the new spacer bracket along with retainer into the slot of the Fuel Rail. Then install the Fuel Pressure Regulator onto the Fuel Rail before tightening its attaching screw to 17 n.m (13 lb ft) while following the engine fuel return pipe. The Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line installation requires the attachment screw that requires tightening to 8.5 n.m (76 lb in). The retainer and spacer bracket should slide inside the Fuel Rail slots so check proper seating by grasping the regulator then pulling it for engagement confirmation. Use the negative Battery Cable to connect the system while inspecting fuel system leaks by shifting through ignition switch positions: on, off and then on. Check for any fuel leaks within this sequence.
