2000 Buick Century Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the fuel pressure regulator on 2000 Buick Century?
A: Service of the Fuel Pressure Regulator requires workers to reduce fuel system pressure. The first step entails disconnecting the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line followed by removing its retaining screw. Spilled fuel will be caught by a shop towel as you lift and twist the Fuel Pressure Regulator to break its attachment with the Fuel Rail. After extracting both the retainer and spacer bracket from the Fuel Rail remove them prior to removing the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the engine fuel return pipe while disposing of the inlet o-ring. Check if contamination exists on the filter screen of the Fuel Pressure Regulator. If present, replacement of the regulator becomes necessary. Before installing a new inlet o-ring on the regulator inlet seal it with engine oil and apply the oil to the o-ring. Tighten the regulator attaching screw only when the fuel return line is connected because screw rotation might harm the retainer and spacer bracket while creating a fuel leak. The fuel return pipe needs to return to the regulator after which you can place the new spacer bracket and retainer into the slot in the Fuel Rail. When installing the pressure regulator to the Fuel Rail the engine fuel return pipe nut must be tightened to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Reconnect the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line while tightening its attaching screw to 8.5 n.m (76 lb in). A proper seat for the retainer and spacer bracket across the Fuel Rail slots can be confirmed through regulator gripping and pulling motions. The fuel filler cap can be replaced while the negative Battery Cable needs to be reconnected. Turn the ignition on for 2 seconds initially before letting it remain off for 10 seconds then back to on to check for fuel leaks within the system.
