In order to replace the outer joint and seal of the wheel drive extremity, remove the large retain clamp of the half shaft bar with a side cutter and discard it, followed by the small seal retaining clamp from the halfshaft bar. Pull off the outboard seal from the CV Joint outer race and slide it out of the bar . Remove grease from inside CV Joint race and use snap ring pliers (J 8059) to hold ears on the race retaining ring before removing the CV Joint assembly of the bar. Break off the seal from the bar and tap at the CV Joint cage with a brass drift and hammer to knock out all six chrome alloy balls. Position the CV Joint cage and inner race at 90-degree angle to the outer race which means align the windows with the lands of the outer race. Clean the inner and outer race assemblies, CV Joint cage, and balls clean from the exterior elements using a cleaning solvent, ensuring you remove all traces of old grease and contaminants before drying out your parts. Mount the new swage ring on to small end of joint seal and slide both on to halfshaft bar, placing the small end of seal in to seal groove. Mount mount small swage tool (J 41048) in a vise, locate the outboard end of the halfshaft assembly into this tool, and align the neck of the seal with the bottom die using an indicator. Put the top half of the tool onto bottom half without pinch point on the seal, then install and tighten the bolts by hand until hand tight. Put the seal and swage ring in line, tighten each bolt of j 41048 180 degrees at a time with a ratchet wrench. Apply a light coat of grease from the service kit, on the ball grooves in inner and outer races, then feed the inner race into cage while maintaining the 90 % angle. Line up the cage and inner race with the outer race and drop the first chrome ball and continue dropping the chrome balls until there are six chrome balls inside. Pack the CV Joint with grease from service kit, taking care the outboard seal is not dimpled or stretched, and press onto the halfshaft bar onto the halfshaft bar until the retaining ring is seated. Slide the large part of the outboard seal with the large seal retaining clamp over the cv jointracer and crimp the clamp using earred clamp tool(J 35910), a breaker bar , and a torque wrench to 176 nm, (130 Ft. Lbs.) check the gap dimension on the clamp ear tightening further if necessary.
