2001 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rack and Pinion for On Vehicle on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: Start by raising and supporting the vehicle then take off the tire and wheel for Rack And Pinion service and repair work. The universal steering linkage puller (J24319-B) helps extract the outer tie rod followed by removal of the hex jam nut from the inner tie rod. Begin by removing the Tie Rod End clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot and after that remove the Rack and Pinion Boot clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot. Detach the Rack and Pinion Boot from the Rack And Pinion at this point. Installation begins with positioning a new Rack and Pinion Boot onto the Rack And Pinion then adding a new Rack and Pinion Boot clamp. Crimp the Rack and Pinion Boot clamp with the keystone clamp plier (J22610). The installation sequence starts with attaching the Tie Rod End clamp to the Rack and Pinion Boot before torquing the hex jam nut onto the inner tie rod assembly. Reposition the tire followed by reattaching the wheel and lower the vehicle then adjust toe alignment settings.
