How to Service and Repair a Rack and Pinion on Buick LeSabre?

To service and repair the rack and pinion off the vehicle (Magnasteer), it is essential to loosen both cylinder line fittings on the cylinder end on rack and pinion assembly and the both cylinders line assembly on cylinder end of the rack and pinion assemblage. Allow line side cylinder assembly to hang from the rack and pinion gear assembly and pull off the O-ring seals from the valve end of line and discard. Check the below lines of the cylinder for cracks, dents, and damage to threads and replace compounds if required. Feed the threads around all the fittings carefully, with finger tightening them to prevent stripping and cross-threading. Put in new O-ring seals to the valve end of the cylinder lines. Drain and bleed power steering system hoses, reservoir, and cooler lines using power steering GM P/N 1050017 (or another equivalent that meets GM Specification number 9985010). Lastly, fix the cylinder line assemblies to the rack and pinion assembly, locking the valve end fittings at 16.9 Nm (12.6 ft. lbs.) and locking the cylinder end fitting at 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
