- Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair Front Coil Springs and Shock Absorber on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?A: For servicing and repairing of the suspension strut, the following tools are needed; holding fixture (J 3289-20), strut compressor (J 34013-B), alignment rod (J 34013-33), and damper rod clamp (J 34013-20). As a starting point, remove the strut assembly from the vehicle. Mount the strut into the strut compressor (J 34013-B) and rotate the compressor forcing screw until the spring is compressed slightly. Find a way of using socket to hold the strut shaft from turning and unfasten the strut shaft retaining nut. Install the alignment rod (J 34013-38) to make the strut shaft come out of assembly and loosen the compressor screw as the strut shaft tends to come out till both strut and spring can be removed out. For installation, the strut should be placed in the strut compressor (J 34013-B) and the damper rod clamp (J 34013-20) is clamped on the strut shaft. Position the flat end of the upper spring seat out from the center line of the vehicle and also inserting the bearing on the upper spring seat if was deprives. Place the spring correctly over the strut and then push the assembly at an angle in the strut compressor and lock the upper pin. Turn the compressor screw clockwise while using the alignment rod (J 34013-38) to align towards the center strut shaft till the strut shaft threads are visible from the top of the strut assembly. Mount the strut washer and retaining nut on and remove the damper rod clamp (J 34013-20) mounted on strut shaft and tighten the strut mount nut to 75nm (55ft. Lb) holding the strut shaft. Lastly, take off the strut from the strut compressor and re-install the strut assembly to the vehicle.
