2000 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2000 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Service and repair of the suspension strut requires these essential tools: holding fixture (J3289-20) and strut compressor (J34013-B) and alignment rod (J34013-38). The required tools consist of three items: holding fixture (J3289-20), strut compressor (J34013-B), and alignment rod (J34013-38). Using proper caution extract the strut unit from the vehicle before it can chip or crack. Set the strut into the strut compressor (J34013-B) before using the compressor forcing screw to make the spring slightly compressed. Use a socket as a wrench to prevent the strut shaft from turning then remove the 24 mm strut shaft nut with the 24 mm wrench. Install the alignment rod (J34013-38) first to guide the strut shaft out of the assembly before loosening the compressor screw during removal of both the strut assembly and spring. When installing the strut insert it into the strut compressor (J34013-B) while using the damper rod clamp (J34013-20) that clamps down on the strut shaft. The flat portion of the upper spring seat should face outward before inserting the bearing into the seat if previous bearing removal occurred. After placing the spring at its correct position on the strut move the assembly into upright position and complete installation by adding the upper locking pin. Use alignment rod (J34013-38) inside the guide strut shaft before turning the compressor screw clockwise to guide the rod to the center strut shaft. Twist the compressor screw until you see the strut shaft threads before adding the washer and nut according to fastener guidelines. Before removing the strut from the strut compressor (J34013-B) use a socket to secure the strut shaft and tighten the strut mount nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.) until the damper rod clamp (J34013-20) is free.
