2001 Buick Park Avenue Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Before starting the Power Steering Pump replacement you must remove the Drive Belt then safely hoist the vehicle. A drain pan should be installed underneath the vehicle after which you can disconnect the power steering pressure hose and return hose from the pump along with the wiring harness. You must eliminate the right outer tie rod retaining nut along with the antilock brake wiring harness bracket. First remove the Power Steering Pump retaining bolts then disconnect the right outer tie rod and the Power Steering Pump. You can use the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) to take out the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. Move the power steering pulley if it becomes needed during removal. The Power Steering Pump installation should start with placing it onto the engine followed by bolt installation at 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) torque. After budging the wiring harness you must install the antilock brake wiring harness bracket. The right outer tie rod requires installation to the Steering Knuckle before torquing the outer tie rod retaining nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). You should connect the power steering pressure hose followed by tight torque to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Complete the procedure by joining the power steering return hose. After lowering the vehicle users must install the Drive Belt then bleed the power steering system while conducting a leak inspection.
