2001 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2001 Buick Regal?
A: Starting the upper Intake Manifold replacement process requires disconnecting the negative Battery Cable along with removing the fuel injector sight shield. First disconnect the electrical wires connecting the iat sensor then remove the duct that connects to the Throttle Body air inlet. Drain your vehicle's cooling system while moving the right Spark Plug Wires away from the Ignition Control Module and doing a fuel pressure release. Separate the Fuel Rail assembly together with the brake booster hose through extraction from the vacuum source manifold. Unbolt the EGR Valve's wiring harness heat shield nut and bolt before removing the egr heat shield then take off the Throttle Body support bracket upper bolt. Disconnect all electrical connectors that service the evap purge solenoid together with the throttle position (T/P) sensor, idle air control (IAC) valve, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, and mass air flow (MAF) sensor. The Throttle Body requires removal of both the evap purge solenoid vacuum line and the accelerator and cruise control cables and bracket combination. Clean the bolt threads while removing both upper Intake Manifold bolts and stud before using a lift to raise the upper Intake Manifold from its Throttle Body support bracket. The cleanup team must remove the upper-to-lower Intake Manifold carrier gasket which sits on the upper Intake Manifold. Thorough replacement of the upper Intake Manifold requires removal of the Throttle Body in addition to the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve and the vacuum source manifold. The installation requires replacing the vacuum source manifold and pcv valve and MAP Sensor and Throttle Body only if the manifold needs to be replaced. Set the upper-to-lower Intake Manifold carrier gasket onto the upper Intake Manifold and align the upper Intake Manifold onto the lower Intake Manifold before installation. Before you install the.unit, apply thread lock compound gm p/n 12345382 to the bolting threads and tighten the upper Intake Manifold bolts (1-10) in sequence to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). First reattach the accelerator and cruise control cables alongside their bracket with the Throttle Body before installing the evap purge solenoid vacuum line. Complete a wiring connection of the maf sensor and MAP Sensor in addition to the iac valve, t/p sensor, and evap purge solenoid. Tighten the Throttle Body upper support bracket bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before installing the EGR Valve wiring harness heat shield and its nut and bolt. Following vacuum source assembly reconnection install the Fuel Rail components while reconnecting Spark Plug Wires to their corresponding module on the ignition control unit. The installation process requires placing the Throttle Body air inlet duct back in position while you connect the iat sensor electrical connector and install the fuel injector sight shield. Add fluid to the cooling system before reattaching the negative Battery Cable while checking for signs of leaks through fluid and vacuum channels.
