2001 Cadillac Catera Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2001 Cadillac Catera?
A: Start brake master cylinder replacement by taking off the ceramic top for the reservoir and draining the brake fluid for safe disposal following local environmental regulations. Beginning by disassembling the reservoir from its body you can then unscrew the power steering reservoir bracket bolt and slide the bracket towards the engine compartment. Separate the brake pipes from the master cylinder and plug these openings to save fluid from spilling into the brake system. Take out the brake master cylinder after removing its attaching nuts and replace the seal if needed. Only use Delco Supreme 11 brake fluid from GM (P/N 12377967) or equivalent DOT 3 fluid because using contaminated containers or ones at risk of water intrusion results in damage. Place the brake master cylinder seal onto the brake master cylinder before installing the master cylinder on top of it. Tighten the brake master cylinder mounting nuts to 22 Nm while connecting and tightening the brake pipes to 16 Nm. Position the power steering reservoir bracket with its bolt and tighten the bolt to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.). Brush brake fluid on both grommets and flanges then put the reservoir onto its positioning on master cylinder and add brake fluid. Put the brake master cylinder reservoir cover back and remove all air from the hydraulic brake lines.
