2001 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the underhood fuse box on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Start the underhood fuse block replacement by removing both the underhood fuse block cover and disconnecting your negative Battery Cable from the battery terminal. The procedure starts with removing the positive Battery Cable fastener from the rear fuse block and also disconnecting the cable before proceeding to take out the three fasteners which mount the fuse block onto the fuse block harness. The four locking tabs securing the fuse block base need to be released before you can take out the fuse block from its position on the base. After turning the fuse block upside down you must remove all electrical connections from the underhood fuse block. The first step toward fuse block base installation should be fastener tightening to 9 n.m (80 lb in) unless base servicing is required. Underhood fuse block base removal requires the evacuation and recharging of the a/c system before taking out the A/C Accumulator from the system. During removal disconnect harnesses from the fuse block base before loosening fasteners that hold the block in place. The body can now accept the fuse block base for removal of the component from the vehicle. Attach the underhood fuse block base to body components by using its fasteners while tightening to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Reattach the accumulator to the fuse block base along with its wiring harnesses. Turn the fuse block over and then attach electrical connectors before installing the underhood fuse block to its base assembly by completely engaging all hold down clips. Fasten the three harness-to-fuse block fasteners to 6.5 n.m (58 lb in) before attaching the positive Battery Cable with its fastener to the rear fuse block by tightening to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). After installation the final step is to replace the underhood fuse block cover followed by reattaching the negative Battery Cable.
