A: Recovery of the Rack and Pinion Boot together with the breather tube requires utiliziing the service boot clamp installer (J22610). First remove the outer tie rod before you can disconnect the hex jam nut that holds the inner tie rod assembly in place. Start by unscrewing the Rack and Pinion Boot tie rod end clamp then trim the boot clamp with side cutters until it fits the boot clamp before discarding it. Before either breather tube removal or Rack and Pinion Boot extraction, mark down the breather tube position on the gear assembly. Remove first the Rack and Pinion Boot followed by the breather tube from the setup. Begin assembly with fitting the new boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot followed by applying grease to inner tie rod assembly and Rack And Pinion gear assembly before installing the Rack and Pinion Boot onto inner tie rod assembly. Check the new Rack and Pinion Boot position within the gear assembly groove while aligning the breather tube to the removal mark and boot molded nipple. Ensure the boot seats correctly without twisting or puckering. Use the service boot clamp installer (J22610) to install a boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot before performing crimping of the boot clamp. After clamping the Rack and Pinion Boot with pliers complete the tie rod end clamp assembly by tightening the hex jam nut onto the inner tie rod assembly .
