2001 Chevrolet Astro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator to the A/C evaporator tube on 2001 Chevrolet Astro?
A: Start the procedure of A/C Accumulator installation (AC P/N 15-1697) between the condenser and Evaporator by recovering all refrigerant from the system. Complete the first step by removing the air cleaner together with upper radiator shroud and grille followed by removing the Evaporator tube from the vehicle. The installation point for the A/C Accumulator (AC P/N 15-1697) begins at a 40 mm (1.5 in) distance from the bend of the Evaporator tube near its high side access port before moving to a 50.8 mm (2 in) distance from this first point. The tubing cutter needs to cut the marked Evaporator tube section before users smooth away any burrs that could go into the tube during this operation. The A/C Accumulator requires the removal of its nuts and ferrules and o-rings, but do not install the o-rings during this stage. Install the A/C Accumulator to the Evaporator tube by positioning its flow arrow toward the Evaporator and then mount the ferrules with small ends facing toward the nuts. When installing the Evaporator tube into the A/C Accumulator you should tighten the nuts up to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The procedure requires eliminating the nuts from the A/C Accumulator before applying 525 viscosity refrigerant oil to the o-rings for placement on the Evaporator tube. Fit the A/C Accumulator to its Evaporator tube with the flow arrow using nuts tightened to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Reinstall the Evaporator tube then recharge the a/c system followed by a leak test on the component where maintenance occurred through the use of halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Reinstall the upper radiator shroud with all components along with the air cleaner and grille.
