How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?

The first step to substitute the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor is to turn OFF the ignition, and drain out the coolant below the ECT sensor. Disconnect the sensor electrical connection and remove the ECT sensor. When installing the new ECT sensor, be very careful so as to prevent damage that might touch the fuel control system. Ensure that replacement components are the correct part number for application and, if necessary, use thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants as specified, and accept that some components may have these coatings applied already. Seal the threads with sealer (GM P/N 9985253 or equivalent), and then install the ECT sensor tighting it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Again connect the ECT harness connector to the ECT sensor and top up the cooling system.
