2001 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: To replace the Oil Pan, start by fitting the engine support fixture to the engine and remove the negative Battery Cable. Lift and elevate the vehicle and drain the engine oil. Take away the right side Engine Mount to cradle bolts , the exhaust crossover, the right side shock absorber lower mounting bolts and the intermediate steering bolt from the Rack And Pinion. Support the crossmember and remove the oil level sensor electric connector. Reach under the car again and pull out the oil level sensor from the Oil Pan. Then remove the Starter motor, followed by the right front cross member bolts. Removes the left Engine Mount through bolt; loosening the left crossmember bolt swings counterclockwise two turns: drops vehicle and lifts engine with engine support fixture. Lift the vehicle once more to adjust the crossmember in order to reach the Oil Pan, and loosen the Oil Pan bolts while maintaining the Oil Pan Gasket on the engine block. Slightly lower the rear of the Oil Pan by rotating it outward with the aim of removing the Oil Pan and gasket, clean the mating surface. For installation, install the new Oil Pan Gasket and install the Oil Pan by tightening the Oil Pan bolts to 14nm (10ft. Lbs.). Install the right cross member bolts, tightening the 2 upper right cross member bolts of 125 nm (92 ft. Lbs.) and lower right cross member bolt of 145 nm (107 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle and the engine with the engine support fixture then raise the vehicle again to fit the left Engine Mount through bolt and Starter motor. Mount the oil level sensor to the Oil Pan and tighten it to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.), and connect the oil level sensor electrical plug. Take off the support from the crossmember, place the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Rack And Pinion with nut up, pressing down until the locking tab snaps into place, tighten bolt of the intermediate shaft to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Mount the right side shock absorber lower bolts by tightening it to 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs.), and right side Engine Mount to cradle bolts , tightening it to 58 nm (43 ft. Lbs.). Finally, drop the vehicle, unfasten the engine support fixture, attach the negative battery, and change the engine oil and filter.
