2001 Chevrolet Camaro Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Start the crankshaft balancer replacement procedure by first removing the Drive Belt and securely raising the vehicle. Begin by removing the Starter motor and in case the vehicle uses m49 manual transmission you must also unfasten transmission brace bolts (2, 3) and the transmission brace itself. Locate and remove both bolts which secure the flywheel housing cover as well as remove the cover itself. Crankshaft balancer replacement requires the removal of torque converter cover on vehicles with 4l60-e automatic transmission. The flywheel holding tool (J 37096) enables you to secure the flywheel before removing the bolt securing the crankshaft balancer to the balancer. Apply the crankshaft balancer puller (J 38197-A) using inverted j 38197-2 with its leg oriented away from the balancer and secure bolts j 38197-4 to dismount the balancer tool following removal of j 38197-1, j 38197-2, and j 38197-4. Extraction of the key from the crankshaft is necessary at this point. To install the new crankshaft balancer begin by applying engine oil on its seal face then put the key in place before aligning the key slot with the crankshaft and finally adding the balancer. Use the bolt torques to 150 nm (111 ft. Lbs.) before finally using torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to rotate the bolt 114 degrees. The 4l60-e automatic transmission vehicles must have their torque converter cover reinstalled after removing the flywheel holding tool (J 37096). To service m49 manual transmission vehicles you should place the flywheel housing inspection cover and its fasteners before tightening them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). The transmission brace alongside its bolts (2, 3) should be installed. Tighten each brace bolt (2, 3) to the engine block at 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.) while tightening the bolts (2, 3) to the transmission at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). After that install the Starter motor and lower the vehicle before putting on the Drive Belt while executing the crankshaft position (CKP) system variation learn procedure.
