  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?
    A: To change the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT), first, turn OFF the ignition and drain the coolant system to the level below the ECT. Unclip and carefully remove the ECT sensor by disconnecting the ECT sensor electrical connector. In the case an installation of the new or original sensor, if no sealer is present, put an application of sealer on the threads (P/N 9985253). Mount the ECT sensor and tighten the sensor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Reconnect ECT sensor electrical connection and refuel engine coolant system. Take care when manipulating the coolant sensor as the damage will influence the operation of the fuel control system, and, confirm that substitute parts are the appropriate part number for the occasion, referenced by the revealed torque, so as to prevent damage.
