2001 Chevrolet Corvette Rocker Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and push rods on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The procedure begins with removing the valve Rocker Arm covers while keeping valve rocker arms and valve push rods together with pivot support in a rack for positioning maintenance. The procedure includes taking out the valve Rocker Arm bolts followed by valve rocker arms and valve Rocker Arm pivot support and pushrods. The cleaning process of valve rocker arms and pushrods needs to include an inspection step to verify proper placement of reused parts since valve lash remains as a natural balance that does not require adjustment. Apply lubrication from clean engine oil to valve rocker arms along with pushrods and valve Rocker Arm bolts require separate lubrication of their machined surfaces. The valve Rocker Arm pivot support needs to go first then it must be installed followed by placing the pushrods which should seat properly in the Rocker Arm ends. At this stage only place the rocker arms together with their bolts but do not apply any torque to them. The technician must rotate the Crankshaft until the number one Piston reaches the top dead center (TDC) compression stroke position for proper alignment of the rocker arms with the off lobe lift point while having the Crankshaft sprocket key positioned at the 1:30 point. For engine operation in firing position number one, technicians should screw in the exhaust valve Rocker Arm bolts (1, 2, 7, 8) to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) tension while employing 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) torque with intake valve Rocker Arm bolts (1, 3, 4, 5). To complete the procedure, rotate the Crankshaft 360 degrees before tightening bolt 3 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and bolt 4 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) for the exhaust valve Rocker Arm while performing the same process for the intake valve Rocker Arm with bolts 2, 6, 7, and 8 also receiving 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs. Torque. At the termination of install the valve Rocker Arm covers.
