- Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Express 3500?A: The upper Intake Manifold replacement begins with disconnecting the battery negative cable and removing both the engine and air cleaner intake ducts. The first task requires removal of the fuel injector electrical connector as well as the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and evap canister purge solenoid valve and idle air control (IAC) solenoid and throttle position (TP) sensor. Equipped vehicles require the brake booster hose and pcv tube removal through tube unlocking by rotation. The left Distributor Cap's Spark Plug Wires get removed along with fuel pipe removal behind the engine and optional air bypass hose removal. Move the vehicle's acceleration control cable with its cruise control cable from the throttle shaft and detach the evap canister purge solenoid valve from the motor assembly. After removing the Throttle Body and Intake Manifold you should set aside the accelerator control cable bracket. After removing the upper Intake Manifold bolts you should take out the upper Intake Manifold for cleaning. Install the upper Intake Manifold by positioning it onto the engine then tighten the studs during the first installation at 12 nm (44 inch lbs) then at 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Fasten the accelerator control cable bracket into position between Throttle Body and lower Intake Manifold using 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) torque settings on bolts and nut. Reinstall both the accelerator control cable and cruise control cable to the throttle shaft before placing the evap canister purge solenoid valve into position and reattaching the fuel pipes to the engine's rear section. Fasten the Spark Plug Wires to Distributor Cap's left side while following correct wire order and install the air bypass hose if your vehicle has this component. To finish the installation lock the pcv tube into the Intake Manifold by twisting it tight then install the vacuum brake booster hose if present and connect the fuel injector electrical connector and both MAP Sensor and evap canister purge solenoid valve and iac solenoid and tp sensor. After completing installation of the battery negative cable you can replace the engine cover and air cleaner intake duct.
