2001 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How should the ABS Control Module be replaced to ensure safety and proper installation on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Replacing the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) should be done with a new complete unit since screw loosening might result in leaks along with personal injury. Start by turning the ignition to off followed by removing all bolts that secure the Cruise Control Module before swinging it away. You can disconnect the ebcm harness connector through these steps: dislodge the red locking tab while bending down the lock tab and move the sliding connector cover into the open position. Pay attention to the brake pipes before disconnecting them from the bpmv by swinging them away from the assembly while using covers to stop contamination. Leaving the master cylinder brake pipes connected to the bpmv yet keeping them covered after disconnecting them from the master cylinder. Start by removing the bpmv mounting bracket nuts and bolt and by disconnecting the ground strap between the ebcm assembly and chassis. Then remove the bpmv mounting bracket and ebcm assembly from the vehicle. Start servicing the bpmv by removing the mounting bracket bolts and continuing only with the bpmv replacement when taking out the ebcm. The ebcm installation requires attachment to the bpmv whenever possible before placing both components onto the mounting bracket for bolt tightening to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reattach the bpmv bracket to the strut tower, securing it with one bolt and three nuts, tightening the lower two nuts and bolt to 10 nm (84 inch lbs.) set the top mounting nut to 3 nm (27 inch lbs.) torque. Correctly attached brake pipes prevent wheel lockup that requires scan tool detection or an antilock stop procedure to verify. You must remove existing shipping plugs from a new bpmv before any installation work starts. Install the master cylinder brake pipes into the bpmv, tightening the fittings to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)apply torque to all brake pipe fittings on the bpmv until they achieve the same tightness. First reconnect the ground strap and ebcm harness connector before securing the lock tab followed by the red locking tab. Install the Cruise Control Module followed by an automated abs bleed procedure.
