2001 Chevrolet Impala Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel pressure regulator on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before starting Fuel Pressure Regulator replacement the driver must first discharge fuel system pressure. First disconnect the vacuum line of the Fuel Pressure Regulator and then undo its retaining screw. Yank the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the Fuel Rail after lifting it and twisting it while keeping all spilled fuel contained with a shop towel. Extract the retainer and spacer bracket and next separate the Fuel Pressure Regulator from its place on the engine fuel return pipe for discard of its inlet o-ring. You should install the fuel return line first before installation because this prevents rotating movement which could harm the retainer and spacer bracket and lead to fuel leakage. A compressed air blast should never be used on the Fuel Pressure Regulator since it creates the danger of destroying it. The screen filter requires gasoline cleaning but the regulator cannot come in contact with solvent baths. When inspecting the filter screen for pollutants find replacements for the Fuel Pressure Regulator if required. Suffuse the new inlet o-ring with pure engine oil before setting it to the regulator source. The new retainer and spacer bracket should be positioned in the slots of the Fuel Rail after attaching the fuel return pipe to the regulator. When installing the pressure regulator onto the Fuel Rail torque the engine fuel return pipe nut to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Secure the vacuum line through an attaching screw which you should tighten to 8.5 n.m (76 lb in). Confirm proper seat of the regulator by pulling on the unit while checking that retainer and spacer bracket securely position themselves in the Fuel Rail slots. Using the same procedure as above but instead of on and off you will inspect for leaks. First, turn the switch on then switch it off followed by another on to check for fuel leakage.
