2001 Chevrolet Impala Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Noting the eight-digit identification number on the left-hand Fuel Rail becomes the first step for Fuel Rail assembly replacement because it services even cylinders 2, 4, and 6. Black o-rings need installation into the upper position and brown o-rings must go into the lower position due to different materials though they share the same size dimension. You should install fittings caps and plug holes to block contaminants from entering the fuel pathways when servicing the system. First drain pressure from the fuel system before taking off the upper Intake Manifold. Removal of service requires disconnecting the engine fuel feed pipe at the Fuel Rail before removing the engine fuel return pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator while discarding both o-rings. Start by extracting the main injector harness electrical connector and the Fuel Injector connector using the lock release followed by depressions of the lock tab to free the connector from its position. The injector electrical harness must be detached from the Fuel Rail before the Coolant Temperature Sensor electrical connector is removed. To proceed remove first the Fuel Rail retaining bolts followed by the Fuel Rail assembly and finally extract the injector o-ring seals from the spray tip end of all injectors. The new Fuel Rail assembly should have its injectors installed through an upward tilt before bolting the assembly with tighttorques of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Connect the Fuel Rail to new power supply by reconnecting the Coolant Temperature Sensor electrical connector and the injector electrical harness to the Fuel Rail after installing injector connectors with proper slide locks in place. The main injector harness electrical connector should be reconnected while new o-rings are installed onto the fuel feed pipe and fuel return pipe before a proper connection at the Fuel Rail with a nut tightened to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Attach the fuel return pipe to the Fuel Pressure Regulator then tighten its nut to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Reinstall the upper Intake Manifold along with connecting the negative Battery Cable. To identify fuel leaks you should turn the ignition to the on position for two seconds followed by ten seconds in the off position then back to on position to examine for leaks.
