2001 Chevrolet Impala Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Placing a drain pan under the vehicle allows you to begin the Power Steering Pump replacement by taking out the coolant recovery reservoir firstly. The first step involves detaching the Power Steering Pump pulley from the Power Steering Pump before taking out the ignition wiring harness which sits near the Power Steering Pump. Detach both the power steering pressure line referred to as the power steering pressure hose as well as the power steering return hose known as the power steering return hose. Start by removing the Power Steering Pump mounting bolts and proceeding to extract the entire Power Steering Pump assembly. The Power Steering Pump reservoir must be detached next from the pump unit. The installation process starts by connecting the Power Steering Pump reservoir onto the pump followed by placing the assembled pump into correct engine position with mounting bolts installed at 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.) tightness. The power steering pressure line can be connected to the power steering return hose before reinstalling the ignition control wiring harness. After attaching the Power Steering Pump pulley you must reinstall the coolant recovery reservoir. The power steering system requires proper filling and bleeding before leak inspection takes place when the drain pan is removed from beneath the vehicle.
