2001 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the wheel cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Start wheel cylinder replacement by elevating and supporting the vehicle under control. Take out the brake drum components plus the brake hose from the wheel cylinder location. Take away the two wheel cylinder bolts first then remove the wheel cylinder. Remove the aged sealant residue where the wheel cylinder contact point is on the backing plate. Install Loctite (R) GM P/N 12345382 or similar agent on the wheel cylinder shoulder part that contacts the backing plate. Place the wheel cylinder in position and keep it in place. Use two wheel cylinder mounting bolts and torque them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) force. Put the bleeder valve into position and torque it to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.), then connect the hose and brake drum hardware. Next put in the tire assembly and wheel while bleeding the wheel cylinder before lowering the vehicle.
