• Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator and recharge the refrigerant system on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?

  A: While changing the accumulator, add 60 ml (2.0 fl oz) refrigerant oil to the system wallet. First, release and reclaim the refrigerant. Lift the cruise control actuator motor if present and plug the open ends to avoid dirt and moisture from entering the refrigeration system. Next, take off from the suction hose from the accumulator, then accumulator hose from the Evaporator, remove the accumulator bracket bolt. Lift the bracket with the accumulator and remove both of them. For installation, install the new o-rings lubricated in 525 viscosity mineral oil; install the accumulator to the bracket then apply 13 n.m (10 lb ft) to the bolt. Install the suction hose to the accumulator and fasten it to 47 n.m (35 lb ft), and connect accumulator hose to the Evaporator and fasten it to 38 n.m (28 lb ft). Replace the cruise control actuator motor that was removed. Lastly, evacuate and charge the refrigerant system and run the a/c system in an effort to find any leak.
