2001 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake camshaft and lash adjusters on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: You should start by removing the engine Timing Chain then unfasten both the center bolt and actuator of the intake camshaft position actuator before removing it from the vehicle. Start by following the sequence to remove bearings cap bolts from the ends of the intake camshaft toward the center and proceed to remove the front camshaft bearing cap then the intake camshaft from the Cylinder Head. Check for wear on the lifters before making replacements when required. Begin by having the number 1 cam lobes of the intake camshaft face correctly on the Cylinder Head while also placing each bearing cap in its direction that matches the numbers and arrows on the caps. Tighten all camshaft bearing cap bolts first according to sequence and torque them to 13 nm (10 ft. Lbs.), then tighten front bearing cap bolts to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the camshaft position actuator onto its camshaft position before tightening the camshaft position actuator sprocket bolt to 55 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). After the Timing Chain installation the last step includes checking the valve clearance which requires adjustment.
