Chevrolet Prizm Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake camshaft and lash adjuster on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: In order to replace the intake camshaft and lash adjusters, you are to begin with the removal of the Timing Chain off the engine, then attempt removal of the center bolt from the camshaft position actuator on the intake camshaft itself, and then remove the actuator. Then, take out the intake camshaft bearing cap bolts sequentially starting from the ends heading towards the center and once done, also remove the front camshaft bearing cap and intake camshaft from the Cylinder Head. Check the lash adjusters for wear and change as needed. For installation, the intake camshaft is placed on the Cylinder Head with the number 1 cam lobes back-to-back, with each bearing cap being installed in the correct direction as specified by the numbers and the arrows pointing within the caps. Install the camshaft bearing cap bolts. They are to be tightened in a described sequence to 13 nm (10 ft. Lbs.) and also the front bearing cap bolts are to be tightened at 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). After that, the camshaft position actuator should be reattached to the camshaft, and the cam sprocket should be secured using the sprocket bolt that is tightened up to 55 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, there is reinstallment of the Timing Chain into the engine and checking and adjustment of valve's clearance.
