• Q: How to replace the Rear Crossmember on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?

  A: Before changing the Rear Crossmember, raise and support the vehicle. See the nut and bolt and take them away in order to get the lh rear suspension Trailing Arm separated from the rear suspension knuckle, do the same to the right hand rear suspension Trailing Arm. Now, take out 2 nuts and 3 washers to pull of the lh rear suspension rear lower Control Arm , and do as much for the rh rear suspension rear lower Control Arm. And support the rear suspension crossmember by a jack meanwhile remove the 2 bolts that hold the rear suspension support brace to the body likewise the 4 bolts that hold the rear suspension cross member to the body and the latter go down. If changing rear suspension crossmember, remove 2 bolts on it, remove the rear suspension support brace from it, remove 2 inner bolts on it, 4 washers, the lh rear suspension front lower Control Arm, the rh rear suspension front lower Control Arm. Installation will require the rear suspension support to be installed at the rear suspension crossmember through the use of 2 bolt and is tightened to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs) not gym lower Control Arm nuts until the rear lower Control Arm to the vehicle is capable. Install the lh and rh rear suspension front lower control arms, 4 washers and 2 inner bolts without bolting. Raise the rear suspension cross member and bolt it to the body with 6 bolts. The 4 outer bolts should be tightened to 74nm(55ftlbs) while the 2 inner bolts should be tightened to 19nm (14ftlbs). Then remove the jack, then place the lh rear suspension rear lower Control Arm with 3 washers and 2 nuts but not tightening and the same for the rh rear suspension rear lower Control Arm. Mount the lh rear suspension Trailing Arm to the rear suspension knuckle and bolt it up without tightening then do the same for the rh rear suspension Trailing Arm. Lower the vehicle and transfer it to a drive-on lift or alignment rack. Stabilize the suspension by bouncing the vehicle to let it settle, then tighten 2 nut and bolts back of suspension Trailing Arm to knuckle and the 4 rear suspension control am to nuts and bolts by 91 nm (67 ft. Lbs.) and 125 nm (89 ft. Lbs.) respectively. Measure the rear wheel alignment and correct if required prior to taking the vehicle off of the alignment rack.
