- Q: How to remove and install the LH front lower control arm from a vehicle with an automatic transmission on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?A: Disassemble the lh front lower Control Arm from the automatic transmission equipped car by removing the front suspension crossmember, trans support, 2 lh lower control arms, and front stabilizer shaft (if such is equipped). Install the engine support fixture and lift and hold the vehicle. Detach the front tire and wheel assembly, then unsnap the suspension support brace and stabilizer shaft (if provided). The following automotive components should be removed from the lower Control Arm: 1 bolt and 2 nuts. Specifically, eliminate the following from the vehicle: 4 bolts ( 1, 8, 9, 11), 1 nut, the front lower Control Arm Bracket, and the front lower Control Arm. Including its front lower Control Arm, secure it by bolting it but do not tighten first; then install the stabilizer shaft and link on to the front lower Control Arm (if equipped and secure with the nut but do not tighten). Secure the front lower Control Arm Bracket to the crossmember with nut, tightening it to19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.). If available, install front stabilizer shaft insulator clamp and tighten with nut, additional tightening up to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs). Install the 4 bolts (3,8,9,11) without tightening, then hook up the 2 nuts + 1 bolt to the lower Control Arm, tighten to 142 nm (105 ft. Lbs.). Reattach the suspension support brace and the 2 suspension support brace nuts (4,6), re-tightening the nuts to 69 nm (51 ft. Lbs.). Relocate the highest tire and wheelchair assembly toward the vehicle and tire consolidation, and then perhaps ever support with due notice. Raise this vehicle on a drive-on lift or move it to an alignment rack, stabilize the suspension by lifting and pushing down the front bumper, and administer the following: bolt to 175 nm (129 ft. Lbs.), bolt to 215 nm (158 ft. Lbs.), bolt to 225 nm (167 ft. Lbs.), bolt to 147 nm (109(ft. Lbs.) and bolt to 123 nm(91(ft. Lbs.). Utilize a 5mm hex wrench to hold on the stabilizer shaft link stud while tightening the stabilizer shaft link nut to 44 nm (33ft. Lbs.). Last, take out the engine support fixture, align the front wheels, be sure to adjust as needed, and then take the vehicle from the alignment rack.
