2001 Chevrolet Prizm Sway Bar Link Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear sway bar link on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The first step to replace the rear Sway Bar Link includes an initial procedure of vehicle lift and support. Disconnect the brake hose from the strut assembly and remove the brake hose clip after taking away the rear tire and wheel assembly. Proceed to take the 2 nuts along with the 2 bolts off the rear suspension knuckle to detach it from the strut. After that continue by removing both the nuts and Sway Bar Link from the rear strut. Begin tightening nuts only after placing the vehicle weight on its tires. Begin installation by mounting the Sway Bar Link to the strut and fasten it with a non-tightened nut. After fixing the Sway Bar Link to its shaft use a nut for mounting without applying any force. The rear suspension knuckle receives the complete strut assembly through installation with two nuts and bolts while the brake line clip is also put in place. The brake hose needs to be fastened to the strut assembly where the brake pipe fitting must reach 15 nm (111 ft. Lbs. Of torque). After reattaching the tire and wheel combination proceed to lower the automobile and transport it to a drive-on lift or alignment rack. Use three persistent nudges on the rear Bumper to make suspension stable. A 5 mm hex socket should be used to hold the upper link stud before tightening the nut that secures the link to the strut until it reaches 44 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Grasp the Sway Bar Link stud using the same socket and fasten the connecting nut to 44 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). After securing the 2 nuts and 2 bolts that join the rear strut to the rear suspension knuckle at 142 nm (1105 ft. Lbs.), complete brake bleeding before measuring rear wheel alignment with possible adjustments.
