2002 Chevrolet Prizm Sway Bar Link Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear suspension sway bar link on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: A mechanic must start the Sway Bar Link replacement by lifting and supporting the vehicle then unmounting the rear tire with its wheel. The brake hose requires detachment from the strut assembly before removing its clip. The procedure starts with removing 2 nuts and 2 bolts from the rear suspension knuckle to disengage it from the strut while also changing 2 nuts and the Sway Bar Link connected to the rear strut. Install the nuts only after positioning the vehicle weight on the tires. First install the Sway Bar Link to the strut while holding the nut without any tightening efforts. First install the Sway Bar Link to the sway bar before fastening a nut to it. Keep the nut loose. Secure the strut assembly through rear suspension knuckle structure by installing 2 nuts and 2 bolts after that install the brake line clip. Fasten the brake hose with the brake pipe fitting until it reaches 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque. Attach the tire-wheel assembly to the vehicle and lower the vehicle to the ground. After moving it onto a drive-on lift or alignment rack the installation procedure may continue. Stabilize the suspension through pressing the rear bumper down a total of three times. A 5 mm hex socket should be used to hold the upper link stud while tightening the retaining nut to 44 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). For the lower link stud you will need to follow the same procedure by fastening its sway bar nut to 44 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). To complete the procedure tighten 2 nuts and 2 bolts which link the rear strut to the rear suspension knuckle until torque reaches 142 nm (105 ft. Lbs.). After that bleed and measure the brake system for alignment before necessary adjustments.
