Technical requirements for this project include the holding fixture (J 3289-20) with the strut compressor (J 34013) and strut compressor adapter (J 34013-88). First dismantle the vehicle's strut assembly before mounting the strut compressor (J 34013) into the holding fixture (J 3289-20). The installer will position the strut assembly within the strut compressor (J 34013) through the use of strut compressor adapter (J 34013-88). Tool failure risks arise together with bodily injury when the spring undergoes excessive compression. Therefore high caution is essential. First compress the coil spring before you detach the strut rod piston nut to proceed with extracting the strut assembly from the strut compressor (J 34013). Strip the strut insulator together with the strut mount and strut bumper and rear spring and lower insulator from the strut. The operator should extend and compress the strut rod until all operation sounds are normal and resistance feels right. A replacement should be made when any abnormal conditions show up during this process. Begin installation of strut components by placing the lower insulator and rear spring and strut bumper and strut mount and strut insulator onto the strut. Use the strut compressor (J 34013) and strut compressor adapter (J 34013-88) to mount the strut assembly. During installation do not exceed the recommended coil spring compression limits. Screw and torque the strut rod piston nut to 49 nm (36 ft.lbs.) before releasing the compressed coil spring to extract the strut from the strut compressor (J 34013). Put the strut into its designated position inside the vehicle.
