How to Safely Service and Repair a Front Shock Absorber on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?

Proper eye protection must be worn when servicing the front suspension strut to shield from metal chips created during the drilling process. Mount the strut in a vise with the rod entirely extended at a horizontal position. Drilling with a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit should occur in the middle of the end cap until fluid either gas or gas combined with oil escapes through the hole. Keep the space tidy with shop towels. Move the drilled strut from the vise before placing it vertically over a drain pan where its hole faces the bottom. Complete the extraction of oil from the strut through rod movement within and against the tube direction.
