2001 Chevrolet Prizm Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the ball joint on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: You should hoist the vehicle for repair access but keep both tires and lower control arms off the ground during service. Set your vehicle on jack stands by placing them under the suspension crossmember. Put the entire steering knucklehub assembly into a soft-jawed vise for safe holding. Use the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to disconnect the Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle by removing its nut first and then the cotter pin. Obtain the Ball Joint and fasten it on the Steering Knuckle using the nut . Apply torque according to specifications (124 Nm/91 ft.lbs.) before rotating the nut another 1/6 turn to position the cotter pin slot with the ball stud hole. Secure the nut by inserting a cotter pin and bending its ends properly. Reassemble the steering unit after fitting the axle hub and take down the car from the frame hoist. To set proper wheel alignment raise the vehicle and perform necessary measurements on an alignment rack. Adjust the alignment when needed before lowering the vehicle down.
